Reflecting on the Success of the ASÉ & PCCs
INTRODUCTION
ASÉ & H&F PCCs hosted our Building Trust - Listening Event on 11th July 2023 at WestWorks. It was a ground breaking occasion that successfully brought together residents of H&F who identify as Black African and Black Caribbean. As part of a borough-led initiative, this event provided a platform for individuals to share their experiences with NHS and Council officials, to begin important conversations to lead to tangible improvements in our local health and care services.
EMPOWERED COMMUNITY VOICES
This event's success lies in its ability to tackle structural racism, discrimination, and poverty that have long plagued our community. Through open dialogue, the Building Trust event empowered participants by giving them a voice and amplifying their experiences. This collective effort showcased the strength and resilience of our community.
KEY STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION
The involvement of NHS management and Council officials played a pivotal role in the event's success. These key stakeholders showed remarkable dedication and commitment to listen, understand, and address the issues faced by our community. By actively collaborating with residents, they fostered a sense of trust and demonstrated a genuine desire to effect positive change.
PERSONAL CONNECTIONS & SHARED EXPERIENCES
At the heart of this successful event was the genuine face-to-face interaction between residents and officials. This intimate setting allowed for meaningful conversations and the sharing of personal experiences. Officials actively listened, empathized, and acknowledged the challenges faced by individuals, fostering a sense of understanding and solidarity.
DRIVING COMMUNITY-LED CHANGE
The success of the Building Trust event was a prime example of the power of community-led change. By involving residents in decision-making and policy development, positive transformations can become a reality. The event served as a catalyst for collaborative efforts that addressed the needs and concerns of the Black African and Black Caribbean community. Our aim is to drive change and create pathways for a truly inclusive and equitable healthcare service.
A BRIGHTER FUTURE AHEAD
Looking back at the evening of events, we are reminded of the incredible impact residents can have when their voices are amplified and heard. The Building Trust - Listening Event has planted seeds for future initiatives, to create a legacy of trust, empowerment, and positive change.
